V-J Day, August 14, 1945 -- this date which will be remembered everlastingly by democratic nations on the earth -- has been ideally symbolized in stamps by the ingenious author of the philatelic souvenir shown.

Note the impressive V at the right in Rizal stamps rising triumphantly over the map of Japan, and, at the left, the colorful famous picture of the historical planting of the First American flag on Okinawa after the surrender of Japan.

Spread on all sides in the most artistic layout are all the commemorative issues of the Philippines since Liberation pertinent to the motif -- every item duly cancelled with the special cancellers and cachet.

This philatelic article was not finished on a day. It had to grow gradually with the years commemorating philatelically the event. Upon its completion, it was sealed in a tube and flown to Japan by clipper for the precious autograph of General Douglas MacArthur, which it bears above the V. Other autographs on the face are those of President Sergio Osmeña and President Elpidio Quirino.

Author of this philatelic rarity is Mr. Jesus Garcia, Chief of the City Delivery Division, Manila Post Office, but it was presented as a souvenir to his friend Don Francisco Ortigas, Jr., President of the Manila Lions Club, who now treasures this priceless article and who has his autograph at the bottom-center.
